What is Electrical Engineering Technology?

The Electrical Engineering Technology curriculum focuses primarily on analyzing, applying, implementing and enhancing existing technologies and is aimed at preparing graduates for the practice of engineering closest to the product improvement, industrial practices and engineering operational functions. The field of Electrical Engineering Technology prepares the graduates on how to apply electrical technology to design, test, troubleshoot and operate power system, automation system, robotics, renewable energy system or basic electrical transportation system.

The Electrical Engineering Technology curriculum will expose students to a combination of classroom theory and practical application in a laboratory environment. The students will be trained with certain circuits, systems and specialized techniques used in power system, automation system, robotics, renewable energy system or basic electrical transportation system.

About the Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering Technology (JTKE) is one of the three departments established under the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). Strategically located at the Industrial Campus, Hang Tuah Jaya, the department offers engineering technology programs leading to the Bachelor of Engineering Technology in three areas of study: Industrial Power, Industrial Automation, Renewable Energy and Electrical Transportation. Presently, there are a combinations of lecturers, teaching engineers and technicians working together under this department, most of them equipped with different areas of expertise and have several years industrial experience.

The aim of this department is to produce highly competent graduates with the technical and communication skills to enter careers with the ability to analyze, design, and implement knowledge in the field of Industrial Power, Industrial Automation, Renewable Energy and Electrical Transportation. The Electrical Engineering Technology graduates from the faculty will have strengths to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals to the required procedures, processes, systems and engineering methodologies applied in the industries. The department is also pro-active in ensuring that the quality of teaching & learning which based on application oriented is parallel with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC).
