What is Electrical Engineering Technology?
Electrical Engineering Technology is an engineering technology field that implements and applies the principles of electrical engineering. This discipline is generally more focused on application and implementation, while electrical engineering may place more of an emphasis on theory and conceptual design.
Electrical engineering technologists help to design, develop, test, and manufacture electrical and electronic equipment such as generation and distribution of electric power, control devices, electrical machines, robotics, and computers. They may work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic devices to adjust, test, and repair equipment.
About the Department
The Electrical Engineering Technology Department (JTKE) is one of four engineering technology departments established under the Faculty of Engineering Technology, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). Strategically located at the Industrial Campus, Hang Tuah Jaya ,the Department offers engineering technology programs leading to the Bachelor of Engineering Technology in two areas of study: Industrial Automation and Robotics, and Industrial Power.
The aim of this department is to produce highly competent graduates with the technical and communication skills to enter careers in the ability to analyze, design, and implement industrial automation, robotics and industrial power systems. The Electrical Engineering Technology graduates from the Faculty of Engineering Technology will have strengths in the apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and electrical engineering principles (industrial automation & robotics / industrial power) to the procedures, processes, systems and engineering methodologies.

Industrial Automation and Robotic is rapidly growing field. The main focus of this area is to provide the students with the basic theoretical knowledge and the practical experience which are required by various industrial careers. The graduate is prepared for careers in the area of consulting engineering; electrical manufacturing; electrical contracting; manufacturing; and governmental agencies. The courses highlight a diverse collection of subjects in this context. Some of these subjects are: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Application, Industrial Robot, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Industrial Process Control and Distributed Control System.
Under the Industrial Power Engineering Technology program, the curriculum structures will encompass subject such as digital electronic and systems; embedded system; programmable logic controllers and application; electrical power systems and industry practices; electrical machines; power system operation and automation, power electronics, energy efficiency, high voltage technology, and project management and power distribution system design. Graduate from this program can choose from a variety of careers in the electrical power control and applications, and design of electrical power systems and equipment.
